Curriculum

The MBA Degree

The MBA degree at UIS is a general professional program intended to serve graduate students from a broad variety of occupations and with diverse professional aspirations. It includes twelve courses and a total of 36 credit hours.

  • The core curriculum begins with the gateway course, BUS 501 Business Perspectives, and concludes with the capstone course, BUS 583 Business Strategy.
  • There are six additional required courses that address the core responsibilities of contemporary managers and leaders.
  • The curriculum also includes four elective courses.

Graduate Certificates

Along with earning an MBA degree, a graduate certificate may be earned.  Some certificate courses are MBA core courses and some are MBA electives.  So with no additional coursework, it is possible to graduate with an MBA degree and a graduate certificate.

New MBA applicants can include the desire to earn a certificate in the initial application.  Current MBA students must complete a Change of Curriculum Form to add a certificate.

Certificates are offered by three College of Business and Management departments.  Information about certificates is available at department websites.
