Muscle Music - Illinois Symphony Orchestra

 The Illinois Symphony Orchestra is excited to present Mr. Leon Bates and Mr. Ludwig van Beethoven in a concert titled "Muscle Music." Leon Bates is not only one of America's top classical pianists but he is also a world class body builder. Mr. Bates will demonstrate muscular power as he bench presses greater and greater amounts of weight. But while he has obvious muscular power, he must harness that power in order to successfully play delicate musical passages on the piano. Using Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, Emperor - along with Beethoven's Symphony No. 8, we will explore strength, power, force, and might in music. We will explore how the music makes us feel and how it can inspire us and help us become stronger. We will use the music to draw the parallel that in life we need to "practice"/"workout" every day to build strength on the inside so that we can lead strong, powerful, lives.
