Cabaret
Fri, 22 Jan 2010 20:00:00 CST
Wilkommen!, Bienvenue!, Welcome!, sings the Emcee of the Kit-Kat Club through painted lips, as the people of 1929 Berlin join him. Whatever your troubles, you will forget them at the Cabaret. Sally Bowles, a middle-class lass from Chelsea, London, is working as a singer at Berlins Kit-Kat Club and trying her best to live the thrillingly decadent life which the city is supposed to offer. Into her orbit comes Cliff Bradshaw, a young American writer, and Sally soon moves in to join him in his room in the boarding house run by Fraulein Schneider. Their fellow lodgers include the cheerful whore, Fraulein Kost, and the gentle, graying Herr Schultz. As the clouds gather, Sally now pregnant by Cliff, is still determined to show the world what a good time she is having and she will not or cannot hear the noises of Nazism around her. But others can.

In recent years, The Blind Boys have proven themselves masters of bringing out the most spiritual aspects of mainstream music, while at the same time bringing the music of the church straight to the roadhouse. In the past five years, they've recorded moving renditions of songs by everyone from Tom Waits to Prince side by side with their traditional material, and appeared as guests on record and on stage with an equally diverse array of artists, from Peter Gabriel to Ben Harper.

Romeo & Juliet
Fri, 05 Mar 2010 20:00:00 CST
Shakespeare's iconic romantic tragedy of innocent young lovers falling victim to family hatred and cruel destiny... swords clash, everlasting love is promised and a treacherous sleeping potion is swallowed in the greatest love story of all time. Young love has never been so delightful or as dangerous as in this stirring new production. Evoking the lyricism of Shakespeare's sonnets, Romeo and Juliet exquisitely embodies the brief joy of youthful passion and ecstasy. Timeless and deeply moving, they love each other passionately as only teenagers can while their families mutual disdain and prejudice lead to revenge and an irreversible fate. Directed by James Kerr of London's National Theatre.
