An Approach to Instructional Design Utilizing Technology:

Assess Students What do they know; what is their backgound; where are they "coming from"; what are their needs?
Set Objectives Establish objectives for the module/semester; use behavioral terms that can easily be evaluated
Select Technology Survey all the options, then select the most appropriate technology; what will effectively achieve the objectives
Feedback Channel Identify efficient method to facilitate on-going interchange with  students (e.g. WebBoard, IM, email)
Implement Tech. Implement the technologies; be sure they work reliably and are accessible to all the students
Evaluate Outcome Carefully evaluate the outcomes; compare to outcomes using other technologies including f2f
Return to top Review each of the steps; re-assess students; revise objectives; make changes in technology; refine feedback methods; make changes in access/support; re-evaluate
